Outfitter Learn · Recruiting · Question

What fair-hiring rules are built in?

The short answer

Outfitter’s hiring ads run in Facebook’s employment category, the way job ads are required to. Words that exclude people by age, sex, family status, religion or disability are blocked before anything runs. Your pay range is always shown when you give one, and 1099 roles are labeled as independent contractor work.

Who it’s for: Any trade owner running a job ad who wants it to run instead of getting rejected.

What happens when you write a job ad

  1. You tell Emma the job, the pay and the schedule, in your own words.
  2. A line that would shut someone out by age, sex, family status, religion or disability is blocked before the ad runs.
  3. The ad goes out with your pay range shown. A 1099 role is labeled as independent contractor work.
  4. Facebook shows it to people around your area, within at least 15 miles.

Why job ads have their own rules

A job ad isn’t a customer ad. Job ads have their own rules on Facebook and in the law. Facebook puts employment ads in their own category, with limits on who sees them. And an ad can’t say who it wants by age, sex, family status, religion or disability.

Owners rarely break these on purpose. A line like “great for a young guy” slips into a rushed post written from the truck. On a self-run ad, that can get it rejected. With Outfitter, those words are stopped before anything runs, so your ad runs.

What it costs

The rules come with every hiring ad at no extra charge. You pay only the ad spend, from your tokens at cost plus 30%.

What it won’t do

An example

A painting contractor tells Emma he wants “young guys with energy”. That wording excludes by age, so it’s blocked before anything runs. He swaps in what the job actually needs: on your feet all day, comfortable on a ladder. The ad runs with the pay up top.

Common questions

Why do job ads get rejected on Facebook?
Job ads have their own rules on Facebook and in the law. Outfitter follows them for you, so your ad runs instead of getting rejected.
Can I aim my hiring ad at younger workers?
No. Facebook doesn't allow job ads to be targeted by age or gender. Words that exclude by age are blocked before the ad runs.
How does a 1099 role show up in the ad?
It's labeled as independent contractor work, so applicants know what they're applying for.
Do I have to show the pay?
When you give a pay range, it's always shown. Pay up front is also what makes job seekers stop scrolling.
Is this legal advice?
No. These rules cover how your ad runs. For employment law questions in your state, talk to an attorney.
