How Outfitter’s tokens work

The short answer

Tokens are the one prepaid balance that pays for everything you run on Outfitter. One token is 1 cent, you can buy any amount from $35, and tokens never expire. Ads cost 130 tokens per $1 of spend. Front Desk calls are 35 tokens a minute, and postcards about 53 tokens an address.

Who it’s for: Owners who want to pay for what runs, not a monthly retainer, and see where every dollar went.

What happens from sign-up to your first token spent

  1. You join and save a card. Nothing is charged.
  2. You buy tokens when you choose: 3,500 for $35, 10,500 for $105, or any amount from $35 to $5,000.
  3. Ads, postcards and Front Desk calls draw from that one balance as they run.
  4. Auto-refill keeps things running. It’s on when you start: below 1,000 tokens, we add 10,500 for $105. Change it or turn it off any time.
  5. Your workspace shows where every token went.

Why Outfitter uses tokens instead of plans

A lawn care company in January and the same company in May don’t need the same office. A flat monthly plan charges both the same. Tokens charge for what actually ran: the ad that showed, the call that got answered, the postcard that got mailed.

One balance also means one number to watch. Ads, calls and postcards all draw from it, so you aren’t paying three separate bills. Shift your money by changing what runs.

What tokens buy, in real terms

$35 buys 3,500 tokens. On Front Desk, that’s about 100 minutes, or about 18 typical calls. On ads, $300 of spend is 39,000 tokens, or $390.

Some things cost no tokens at all. Setting up Front Desk, changing her and calling her for your messages are free. Texting Emma is free. Your free website uses none.

Want a set amount every month? Start Hunting New Business is $299 a month for 29,900 tokens, to spend on whatever works. No contract.

How it compares to the usual way

Most contractors pay for the office side in pieces. Trade answering services often run $400–$800 a month for 60–90 minutes of answer time, with per-minute overage on top. On tokens, a month with 300 minutes of Front Desk calls is $105.

There’s no setup fee and no commission on your jobs. If nothing runs, nothing is spent.

What it costs

1 token = 1¢. Website Professional: 7,900 tokens a month ($79). Facebook, Instagram and hiring ads: 130 tokens per $1 (your ad spend + 30%). Postcards: about 53 tokens an address. Front Desk calls: 35 tokens a minute. Tasks your agent completes on calls: 25 tokens a minute; text is free. The free website uses none.

What it won’t do

An example

A plumber buys 10,500 tokens for $105. In a busy month, Front Desk spends 300 minutes on his calls: 10,500 tokens, or $105. Auto-refill tops him up, so the phone keeps getting answered. His workspace shows where every token went.

Common questions

What is a token?
One balance for everything. 1 token is 1 cent. Ads, calls and postcards all draw from it, and your workspace shows exactly where it went.
Do tokens expire?
No. Tokens never expire, and unused tokens stay in your account if you pause or stop.
How many tokens do I have to buy?
Any amount from $35 to $5,000. Common amounts are 3,500 tokens for $35 or 10,500 tokens for $105.
What is auto-refill?
It keeps things running. It's on when you start: when you drop below 1,000 tokens, we add 10,500 for $105. Change it or turn it off any time.
What happens if I run out of tokens?
With auto-refill off and no tokens left, Front Desk takes short voicemails and texts you. Those aren't counted. Buy more tokens any time to pick back up.
Why do I save a card?
So your ads and calls keep running. Nothing is charged when you join. Tokens are bought when you choose, or by auto-refill if you leave it on.
