What is missed-call text-back?

Definition

Missed-call text-back is an automatic text sent to someone whose call to a business went unanswered. It tells the caller their call was seen and gives them an easy way to keep going, usually by replying. The goal is simple: the caller doesn’t move on to the next contractor on the list.

Who it’s for: Contractors who miss calls on the job and lose those callers to whoever picks up first.

What happens with missed-call text-back

  1. A homeowner calls and nobody picks up.
  2. A text goes to their phone from the business’s number.
  3. They reply with what they need, and the owner picks it up from there.

How Outfitter does it

A text back is good. An answered call is better. Outfitter’s Front Desk answers the calls you can’t take, so the caller gets an answer instead of a ring.

When a call is missed, the caller still hears back. Missed calls get a text back, and Emma can call them back and pre-schedule a time for you to confirm. Either way, you get the details by text and email.

What it won’t do

An example

At 9:40 pm a homeowner calls a plumber who’s off for the night. The call doesn’t die in a full voicemail box. Emma calls back and pre-schedules Saturday for the plumber to confirm.

Common questions

Is missed-call text-back enough on its own?
It beats voicemail, but not every caller replies to a text. Answering the call is the stronger fix, and that's what Front Desk does.
What should a missed-call text say?
Keep it short: your business name, that you saw the call, and a question that invites a reply. Our missed-call text-back guide has templates.
Does Outfitter text back missed calls?
Yes. Missed calls get a text back, and Front Desk answers the calls you can't take in the first place.
