How Emma designs and prices a basement in about five minutes

The short answer

At BuildFlow Basements, Emma talks a homeowner through their basement out loud and picks real products with them. She renders the space in those finishes and prices it with BuildFlow’s own pricing engine. It takes about five minutes from hello to a designed, priced project. Emma never makes up a number; the range comes from the same estimator BuildFlow uses for its proposals.

Who it’s for: Basement finishers first, since that's the trade Emma was proven on. The same approach gets built for other project trades.

What the homeowner sees in those five minutes

  1. They tap one button and talk. Emma answers out loud in the browser, and says up front that she’s an AI.
  2. She asks what they want: a bedroom, a bath, a wet bar, a TV wall, an office. Roughly how big the space is. No tape measure, no floor plan.
  3. They pick real products, like flooring, vanities, lighting and tile, each with its picture, brand and price.
  4. Their basement appears in those finishes, rendered during the call and labeled illustrative.
  5. They get a price range, a proposal page they keep, and open times for an in-home measure-up.

Why basements came first

BuildFlow Basements is the company we run ourselves and Outfitter’s first account. Every feature it needs gets built into Outfitter first. So basements are where Emma was proven, with real homeowners and real money.

Emma’s design knowledge is public, too. Emma’s Basement Design Journal publishes the design rules, costs and product picks she works from. You can try the live estimator as a homeowner and watch the number come back.

What it won’t do

An example

A Twin Cities homeowner wants a family room, a three-quarter bath and a dry bar. Five minutes later she has renderings of the bar with floating shelves and a price range. She also has a link to share with her husband. The measure-up is on the calendar.

Common questions

Does the homeowner need measurements or plans?
No. Emma asks what rooms they want and roughly how big the space is. The in-home measure-up confirms the size and the house's conditions.
Where does the price come from?
From BuildFlow's own pricing engine, the same one it uses for proposals. The AI never writes a price.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, on any modern phone or computer, including from a Facebook or Instagram ad.
Who builds the basement?
Licensed, insured local contractors. BuildFlow designs and prices it, and one fixed price is agreed before work starts.
Can I try it?
Yes. The live basement estimator is on Outfitter's exclusive leads page. It takes about five minutes, out loud or typed.
