What is an AI agent for a contracting business?
An AI agent is software that takes actions toward a goal instead of only answering questions. For a contracting business, that means doing office work: answering a call, sending a lead to the owner, running an ad. A chatbot replies; an agent gets the job done and reports back.
Who it’s for: Owner-operators and small crews who have more office work than office staff.
What an AI agent does in a contractor’s day
- A homeowner calls while you’re on a job. The agent answers, takes the details and texts you.
- You ask for something in plain words, like “send postcards around the Maple Street job,” and it does the work.
How Outfitter does it
Outfitter’s AI agent is Emma. You get one agent and one phone number. Call or text her like you would a good office manager. She runs your website, your marketing, your phones and your hiring.
Ask her a question, like “how many leads came in this week?” Or hand her work. She learns your trade before her first call, so she knows a burst pipe from a quote request.
You stay in control. You set the rules and approve the big calls. Every call, text, ad and change she makes is recorded, so you can see what happened and when.
What it costs
On Outfitter, texting Emma is free. Tasks she completes on calls are 25¢ a minute, from tokens.
What it won’t do
- Emma is an AI and says so.
- Spending money, like ads and postcards, waits for your OK.
- Emma can only do what she’s been given permission to do.
An example
BuildFlow Basements is Outfitter’s first account. There, Emma talks a homeowner through their basement out loud and prices it from BuildFlow’s own pricing. Then she books the in-home measure-up, all in about five minutes.
